As Ropes Course Instructors, our job never ends, we wouldn't want it to.
WHAT IS A ROPES COURSE?
A Ropes Course consists basicly of two different parts, a Low Ropes course and a High Ropes Course. Both courses are designed to challenge an individual both physically and mentally. However, a Low Ropes Course focuses on team building and communication amongst a group of individuals. Whereas, a High Ropes Course is designed towards the individual and builds self confidence and self esteem within that individual. A Low Ropes Course consists of a number of different obstacles that the group must overcome ranging from climbing over a 10 foot wall to finding their way on a maze of stumps with only three boards. A Low Ropes element cannot be done by one individual, each event takes at least two people to accomplish it. A High Ropes Course on the other hand consists of obstacles built 40-50 feet high in the trees. Each element in a High Ropes Course is designed for only one individual at a time. Participants in the High Ropes Course use climbing equipment, mainly a harness and a helmet, and are always secured to the course by a safety line should they happen to fall. A High Ropes Course is SAFE, as long as you pay attention and you have good Instructors. That's where we come in. One note, no matter how challenging the Ropes Course, no benefit is achieved without proper processing.
WHAT IS PROCESSING?
After all is said and done, everyone is out of the trees, and thinking about what they just did, this is where processing kicks in. Although most participants will probably never have a job that requires them to do the same thing they just did, everyone will experience the same general feelings or experience of doubt, fear, accomplishment, trust, self confidence, effort, self discipline, perseverence, and attitude. During processing, this is where the Ropes Course Instructors take what the group has learned and experienced and shows them how to apply it to their own lives. Usually, processing is done in a small group setting, where the group gathers in a circle and the Instructor acts as the facilitator guiding them through this process.
